senate 07/28/2025 - 119th Congress
We’re working to make it easier for active service members to get reimbursed for travel expenses when seeking specialty medical care by reducing the required travel distance from 100 miles to 50 miles. At the same time, military retirees and their families will still have the 100-mile threshold to qualify for travel reimbursements.

Shrinking reimbursement distance could save money, but at what cost to military families' access to care?

It’s a balancing act: trim expenses, but don’t trip up those who need specialty care the most.

Cutting travel reimbursements? That’s like telling veterans to walk it off—healthcare is not a budget line to slash.

Reducing distance sounds practical until you’re the one driving an extra 50 miles for health services.

Military retirees still get the 100-mile perk, so this bill respects the veterans without breaking the bank.

Tightening the reins on reimbursements means getting smart with taxpayer dollars—no freebies on endless mileage.

If taking care of those who risked their lives isn't a priority, what are we even calling 'service' anymore?

Half the distance, double the burden—this bill tosses military families under the bus while pretending to help.

Less waste, more discipline—cutting back on unnecessary travel reimbursements is just common sense stewardship.
