Posts - Bill - HRES 522 Recognizing that Adriana Smith and her family's prolonged ordeal without their consent is the direct result of the Black maternal health crisis, the danger of laws that give rights to fetuses and take them away from pregnant people, and anti-abortion laws that continue to harm people who can become pregnant.

We are working to recognize and address how laws that prioritize fetal rights over pregnant people’s autonomy harm families like Adriana Smith’s, exacerbate the Black maternal health crisis, and deny pregnant people control over their medical decisions. Our goal is to restore dignity, ensure access to necessary healthcare, and repeal laws that criminalize abortion or override advance directives during pregnancy.
